The Shape Of Water & Spirit

Last Sunday, Hollywood held its grandest night, the Super Bowl of movies, the Oscars. And, while I’m probably still miffed that “La La Land” didn’t really win last year, the latest Best Picture honoree, “The Shape of Water,” reminded me that cinema often shares tales that are very much spiritually related.

Here are a few films that have an edge of enlightenment (not to mention, a certain level of entertainment value too):

“The Shape of Water” – Nominated for 13 Academy Awards, this movie brings to light that knowledge and compassion can transpire across species despite any perceived communication barriers. And, it’s no coincidence how water is used as a divine healing metaphor throughout the story.

“A Dog’s Purpose” – Canine lovers unite; this movie is a must-see! The soul of man’s best friend embodies the lives of several dogs, while making profound differences in the lives of the humans with which it interacts over the years. It also reinforces the spiritual connections, or animal instincts, that dogs are very capable of embracing.

“Secondhand Lions” – Michael Caine and Robert Duvall play aging uncles to a young Haley Joel Osment. In a pivotal scene, Duvall’s character sleepwalks, as his soul takes over and relives moments of his earlier years.

“The Sixth Sense” – The classic line, “I see dead people,” is enough to get one hooked into watching this box office hit about a young boy who has the gift to communicate with the other side. While there are plenty of jolts, ultimately, this film offers that children, perhaps, possess surprisingly strong abilities – due to their not having imposed filters – to have experiences with other spiritual dimensions.

“Black Panther” – The latest super hero film to hit the silver screen is nothing short of a blockbuster. In addition to the special effects and action sequences, the movie engages in the power of spiritual influences from ancestors who have made their transitions.

So, grab some popcorn and enjoy some movie magic…with a splash of of spirituality.

Love and light,

Tony
