The First Step

My mother once told me that I took my first baby steps when I was only seven months old. Granted, I wasn’t breaking any marathon race records, but I did manage to waddle around the room until I ultimately tumbled over on the Linoleum! Despite the thud on the kitchen floor, my mother deemed the effort a victory!

As grown-ups, however, taking the initial footwork in pursuing our goals can often be daunting, perhaps because of the uncertainty involved. The first step is often a subject that pops up during my client psychic consultation sessions.

As the culprit, fear gives folks a multitude of reasons for not taking their first steps: “I’m afraid of what people might think.” “I’ve never done this before.” “I know I’d embarrass myself.”

So, why not flip it around? Let joy be the inspiration for putting that foot forward: “I’m excited about the possibilities!” “I’m going to learn a lot!” “I feel very proud of myself for doing this!”

Sometimes, the first step is giving yourself permission. That’s right; adults can be the worst when it comes to giving themselves the okay to explore. Recently, I shared with a client that I was “seeing” her at multiple European destinations: the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Big Ben in London and Trevi Fountain in Rome! She admitted, “I’ve always wanted to take a two-week vacation and tour those places, but never thought it was possible.” Before we hung up the phone, she not only indicated that she was going to make the trip happen, but started mapping out her dream itinerary.

Many times, the desire is clear. It’s the manifesting of that desire that can be overwhelming. When the “I don’t know where to start” statement arises in a client session, it’s my cue to share insights on potential ways to get the ball rolling, or, taking the first step.

Whatever the path, just remember, fancy footwork isn’t just for babies!

Love and light,

Tony

Well said Tony. I like the analogy. We’ve all heard the quote, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. “What About Bob” taught us about “baby steps” but I had not put the “real” baby steps together with us adults avoiding to take our next first step. That was a new perspective. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Tony. This is me. I’ve been on pause since 2015 when I had all the surgeries. Now, with this huge hernia that no surgeon will touch, I just feel “stuck” in time. I work from home & never get out with the exception of going to my parents once in a while. Love you❤️❤️❤️ V V

Hey Terry! Thanks for reading and for sharing your own experience. You are so right; people do not need others to give them permission to soar! Hugs!
